More than 130 participants attended the Moderation and Calibration cum Team Building for the Assessment and Certification partners in Sol Y Viento last March 22 to 23, 2016. The participants were mostly accredited Assessors, Assessment Center Managers and Processing Officers/Liason Officers in the PASMAK District.
Dir. Carreon and Mr. Mark Gervacio of the NCR Regional Office facilitated the calibration on the first day. The participants were divided into 8 groups with a Case Study assigned to each to discuss and present the recommendations during the afternoon plenary. The case studies were taken from the actual experience/case in the district. Lessons from each case study were taken up and agreements were made for implementation of all concerned parties.
The second day was allotted for the team building cum-moderation activities. Participants were engaged to group activities as part of the review of duties and responsibilities of an accredited assessor, AC Manager or a Processing Officer. The reviews were all based on the newly deployed Quality Procedures on the Assessment and Certification.
TESDA spearheads the conduct of free assessment of workers every year to entice more employers and private companies to put premium to quality workers who are TESDA Certified. For the PASMAK District, the target industry sectors are in land transportation- specifically the bus, trucking, and taxi operators; construction and tourism including the hotels.
For 2016, the target assessment venues are JAC Liner/Green Star, San Trans Bus. Co., Bonifacio Global Transit and Dimple Bus Co, FLA Transport Services, CTAP Truckers and ACTOO Truckers, Terminal 1 NAIA, Resorts World Pasay, IHG group of Hotels (Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Intercon), Manila Peninsula, and Midas Hotel. The total target number for free assessment of workers is 2,250.
It is also hoped that 200 existing Pharmacy Assistants within the Makati and Pasay districts are given free assessment for Pharmacy Services NC III this year. DOH and FDA mandate that all Pharmacy Assistants should be holders of TESDA National Certificate for Pharmacy Services NC III by 2017.
The Management of IHG Group of Hotels with initial launch at the InterContinental Hotel in Makati participated in the free assessment of its workers last December 2015. The targeted workers/employees were those who will retire or will be re-assigned to other member IHG group of hotels due to the impending close down of its operations by December 30, 2015. More than 75 were assessed and certified in Food and Beverage Services NC II, Housekeeping NC II, Cookery NC II and Bread and Pastry Production NC II.

The first TVET Forum for the year was held in August 19, 2015 at K Line Maritime Academy Philippines located at the Coral Drive Central Business Park 1, Pasay City. The forum was a special occasion because aside from convening the TVET partners in one forum to update on the latest TVET developments and directions of TESDA, the event was also an opportunity to recognize the best competitors during the PASMAK District Skills Competition held in July 8 to 10, 2015 in various location/sites within the district.
The forum was graced by none other than the very supportive Congressperson of Pasay City, Hon. Emi Calixto-Rubiano and the head of K Line Maritime Academy Philippines, Capt. Baratang. Dir. Jun Mamaril of TESDA Certification Office discussed the STAR Rating System, a new program of TESDA Central Office which hopes to recognize TVET partners in terms of providing quality training and implementing quality management system in their respective institutions.
Dir. Carreon presented the highlights of TESDA PASMAK Accomplishments and the results of the PASMAK District Skills Competition held from July 8 to 10 at Ship Hotel Cruise Institute of the Philippines and Slims Fashion and Arts School. Part of her presentation was the Mini-Fashion Show which showcased the outputs of the clothes-wear designed and done by the competitors/students from the Slims Fashion School. The models were selected from the TVET particpants and led by Dir. Carreon.
